Stout Seed was formed in 1993, when Mark Stout took a dealership opening for Garst Seeds. Mark, a young farmer with a family of four, began servicing local farms in Louisa County while maintaining the family farm that included cattle, hogs, and grain.

In November 2011, Mark’s son, Trent Stout, joined the family business, bringing fresh energy and dedication to the company. With a background rooted in farming and a commitment to learning, Trent immersed himself in every aspect of the business. From working directly with customers to managing operations, Trent’s hands-on experience and keen understanding of agricultural needs positioned him as a vital part of Stout Seed’ success.

Expanding genetic lineups over the past decade while building on service and on-farm experience, Stout Seed has earned several sales awards within multiple organizations. These achievements are a strong testament to the values on which the business was founded and continues to operate.

By Winter 2020, Trent Stout transitioned into the role of owner, marking a new chapter for Stout Seed. With nearly a decade of experience by the time of his leadership transition, Trent has steered the company into an era of growth and innovation. His dedication to providing farmers with access to the best genetics and seed on the market and his focus on personalized service have strengthened Stout Seed’ reputation as an area leader in agriculture.

Today, Stout Seed continues to thrive as a family-run business, grounded in the same principles that guided its founding. While the seed industry has undergone dramatic changes over the past 30+ years, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to what matters most: the customer. Stout Seed is proud to offer and ensure the success of the farming community it serves.
